Overview
This document provides an overview of the Scorecard.
It is designed to help users navigate the Scorecard and understand the key tools available, including Flags, Scoring Rules, and the Interaction Action Menu. These features support underwriting teams in evaluating merchant credibility and making informed onboarding decisions.
Table of Contents
1. Overall Score and Status Page
Upon opening the Scorecard, the “Overall Score and Status” page is displayed first, providing a high-level summary for quick assessments.
At the top of the page, a Stepper Bar allows underwriters to navigate between different sections, each containing categorized Scoring Rules.
The Stepper Bar allows you to navigate between Scorecard pages and also displays an indicator for the most severe active flag on each page.
Underwriter Name & Decision
These fields appear at the top of the first page once the Scorecard has been actioned. They indicate who completed the Scorecard and the final decision—whether to approve, decline, or pend the merchant.
Overall Score
The Overall Score ranges from 0 to 100 and is calculated using a combination of Page Weights, Scoring Rule Weights, and Scoring Rule Settings.
These settings are customizable and can be adjusted to best align with your organization’s risk model or business needs. However, it is recommended to obtain approval from your Head of Risk Underwriting or Compliance before making any changes.
System Recommendation
The System Decision is intended to assist the Underwriter and will be one of two options: Recommend Approve or Recommend Decline.
By default, the system recommends Approve for scores of 50 or above, and Decline for scores below 50. These thresholds are customizable.
Ultimately, the Underwriter is responsible for making the final manual decision, regardless of the system’s recommendation.
Risk Flag Summary
The Risk Flag Summary section displays all active flags across the Scorecard in one centralized location for convenience and efficiency.
Underwriters can review and address these flags directly within this section. Alternatively, they can navigate to the corresponding Scoring Rules pages if preferred.

2. Merchant Details Page
The Merchant Details page provides a summary of all relevant merchant data that is used to run the Scorecard checks.
3. Scoring Page(s)
Scoring Pages are the pages that follow the Merchant Details page. Each page allows you to review risk flags related to a specific group of scoring rules.
Scoring Pages can be organized to reflect the preferences of your risk team. We recommend the following page breakdown as a baseline:
- Owner & Business ID
- Business Risk
- Processing Profile Risk
- Financial Risk
Summary
The Summary section includes the number of active flags on the page, the page score and page status, and a list of the flagged rules.
Each Scoring Page has a potential score out of 100 and a weight that determines its impact on the Overall Score. Hover over the page score in your console to view the weight assigned to that page. By default, all pages are evenly weighted.
Page status indicates the overall review state based on the presence and severity of risk flags:
No Flags: The page has no active flags
Review: The page contains one or more Review flags and no Decline flags
Decline: The page includes Decline flags
Scoring Rules
Scoring Rules are listed below the Summary. All scoring rules are available for review, regardless of if there is an active flag, or not. There are 4 main types of scoring rules:
- Integrations
- Lookups
- Thresholds
- Reports
Each scoring rule has its own weight, and all the rules on a single scoring page must collectively add up to a total weight of 100. These weights are configured on the back end. By default, each rule is evenly distributed across the page.
View Details
If you click on ‘View Details’, you will be able to see additional information about a specific Scoring Rule:
Input and Output Data
In the View Details expanded card available on many scoring rules, you can toggle between the Input Fields and Output Fields, to view the data sent to and received back from the third party web service.
Input Fields may vary, but they are required parameters that enable the rule to run:
Output Fields are the responses returned by the third-party service that are used to generate a score and flag:
Rerun
If there is an error with the integration or the merchant-provided data, you can edit the values in the Input Fields section and then rerun the scoring rule using the updated data. Updating the input fields will also reflect changes on the Merchant Details page (Page 2).
Keep in mind that rerunning scoring rules may incur a cost. Only members of the Underwriting Team within the company have permission to rerun scoring rules.
After rerunning an integration, your overall score may change, especially if the updated rule has a page weight assigned to it.
4. Scorecard Action Menu
The Action Menu is the central hub for performing actions on a Scorecard. You can always access it by clicking the floating icon located on the right side of your screen.
4.1 Action Menu: Scorecard Overview
This page is where you'll make the decision on a scorecard: Approve, Decline, Pend, or Cancel.
- Pending: marks the Scorecard as Pending as the decision can’t be made yet, typically due to missing information or documents.
- Cancel: marks the scorecard as canceled without declining the merchant. Most often used in cases of duplicate applications or at the merchant's request.
- Decline: marks the decision as final as not to board the merchant.
- Approve: marks the decision as final as the merchant is ready for boarding.
Once either Approve, Decline, or Cancel is selected, the decision is final and the scorecard will be locked. At that point, you will no longer be able to modify data, rerun scoring rules, or make additional changes. However, you will still be able to view the scorecard in a read-only (greyed-out) mode.
4.2 Action Menu: Risk Flag Resolution
In the Flags tab of the Action Menu, underwriters can resolve active risk flags. Resolving a flag does not impact the overall score, but it does remove the flagged item from the active flag summaries on both the Overall Page and the Scoring Page.
Resolved flags are updated to green, indicating they've been addressed, but the original flag type remains visible for audit purposes.
You can resolve active flags by selecting "Resolve" from the dropdown on the specific flag card in the Action Menu.
Do not resolve flags until all integrations have finished running, as some flags may drop off automatically once an integration completes.
After clicking "Confirm", you'll see a confirmation prompt that lists all the rules you're about to resolve:
After resolving flags, the Scoring Rules will display a new green flag indicator with a yellow or red dot in the center, indicating the original flag type:
4.3 Action Menu: Attachments
You can access attachments in the third tab of the Action Menu. Attachments may include collateral returned by third-party web services, such as the KYC Sitescan PDF Report, as well as documents submitted through API Integration or our front-end landing page (e.g., signed agreements), and any files uploaded via the Correspondence feature.
If needed, you can upload additional attachments manually by clicking the Upload button.
4.4 Action Menu: Integration Monitor
The Integration monitor allows you to track the completion status of third-party service integrations. If you open a scorecard while integrations are still in progress, you won’t be able to make a decision, and an indicator will appear showing that integrations are still running.
In the meantime, you can begin reviewing the Merchant Details while waiting for the integrations to complete. Once they finish, the Scorecard Flags and Scores will automatically refresh.
If an error occurs, a message will appear at the bottom of your screen: "Integration Error. Expand to view details.". You’ll also see a red dot next to the affected integration in the Action Menu.
Common causes include credential issues or improperly formatted data sent for that scoring rule. Please contact ScanX Support immediately for assistance in resolving the issue.
4.5 Action Menu: Audit Logs
This feature allows you to track actions taken by any user during the review and decisioning process of a Scorecard. To access the ScanX Audit Log, open the ScanX Action Menu and click the Audit Log icon:
The ScanX Audit Log will open in a drawer at the bottom of the scorecard:
The following events are logged in the ScanX Audit Log:
- Scorecard Viewed
- Scorecard Saved
- Flag Resolved
- Scorecard Decisions
- Scoring Rule Rerun
- Scorecard Recalculated
- Field Data Changed (Including Before/After Value)
You can download this information by clicking the down arrow in the top-right corner of the log.
The audit log helps track which users performed specific actions and can identify if someone is approving or declining merchants outside of their authority.
5. Correspondence Email
ScanX includes a built-in Correspondence feature that allows underwriters to securely contact merchants for additional information needed to complete a risk decision. This is commonly used to request items like a driver's license or to recollect information, such as an SSN, if a scoring rule indicates a mismatch.
After selecting the “Comments” option, users can choose to leave either a Comment or a Correspondence message. Correspondence messages trigger an email notification to the specified recipient and CC or BCC any included addresses. The CC field allows multiple emails to be entered, comma separated, in addition to the primary contact in the To field.
The email address entered in the Correspondence "To" field will receive an email directing the recipient to a secure page where they can view the information and/or document request. Any submitted documents will automatically appear in the Attachments tab of the Action Menu.
6. Comments
When making a decision to approve, pend, cancel, or decline a scorecard, it's recommended to use the Comments feature to document your reasoning. Comments are logged with the date and author and are available for audit and compliance purposes.
You can also download the comments as a CSV file for record-keeping.
Or, if you have a Decision Report set up for your scorecard, you can include specific comments in the report by checking the box next to each comment.
