Overlay templates allow you to add signatures and fields to documents sent through the Connector without adding tags to the document beforehand. This is done by creating a template in Agreement Express with the signatures and fields. Then when sending a document through the Connector you can select which template to use as an overlay. The system then takes the signatures and fields from the chosen template and adds them to the document using the location from the template to position them on the uploaded document.
Overlay templates work best when the document doesn’t change length (i.e. it's always the same number of pages). This is a good alternative if you are unable to add tags onto the documents or if you wish to avoid users accidentally removing part or all of a tag on a document.
NOTE: The overlay feature supports the document being sent through the Connector containing more pages than the overlay template but not vice versa. It is also recommended that when using the overlay feature to not include tags in the document being sent through the Connector.
Setting up an Overlay Template
The easiest way to get the location of signatures and fields correct is to create the overlay template using the document you will be sending through the Connector. Then drag on your fields and signature blocks using the syntax Placeholder|1, Placeholder|2 etc. for the signature labels. After you've saved the template, go to Template Manager and set the template as a company (or user) favourite. Only templates set as a favourite will appear in the overlay list in the Connector. Company favourites will be available to all while user favourites will only be available to yourself.
Using an Overlay Template
After you print a document to the Connector you can select which template to use as an overlay from the dropdown. The star to the right allows you to set a default overlay template. This means the template will already be selected when the main Connector window opens.
When building a document package any template overlays selected will be listed as well in the Document Package section. You can change or remove an overlay on a document by either using the dropdown at the top (if it's the current document you wish to edit) or selecting the document from the list and clicking on one of the buttons below.
Key Difference Between Tags and Overlay Templates
One of the key differences between using an overlay and the tags is that while the system ignores any signature tags that doesn't have an email address to match to, all signature blocks from an overlay will be added to the document no matter what. The publisher can then remove the excess signatures by clicking delete beside the signature label on the Send panel.
